Parent Training
As most insurance companies begin to cover services, the requirement for parent involvement is mandated. In order for behavior programming to be successful, generalization of skills across environments, among individuals and stimuli must occur. Our goal is for our programming to generalize into the individual's home and throughout their everyday life so that they may be successful, independent individuals within our community. For this to occur, it is vital that parents play a key role in learning about behavior strategies and implement behavior procedures within their homes and community. While it is not feasible or even recommended that all parents sit at a table with their child and work on their alphabet, it is vitally important that they follow behavior guidelines set forth by their behavior analyst to ensure consistency.
At ABC, we have an open door policy, so that if sessions are happening within the clinic, parents are always welcome to attend, observe, learn and participate. With minimal advance warning, accommodations can be made to protect the privacy of others so that parents can play an active role. We use video recording of sessions to teach parents behavior procedures and show effectiveness of behavior interventions developed by behavior analysts. Frequently parent wide trainings are given on basics of Applied Behavior Analysis and cover a variety of topics including toilet training, teaching language and behavior reduction methods. Parent training can occur in the clinic, home and community settings; we go where the behavior occurs. Please check back frequently for additional behavior training opportunities for parents.
